W1047 TL-R from 35 Squadron



On 27th April 1942, the crew of Halifax W1047 TL-R from 35 Squadron took off at 2024 hrs from RAF Kinloss on the North East coast of Scotland to participate in an attack on the German Battleship Tirpitz which was moored at the time in Fættenfjord in Norway.

On arriving in the target area they found that Tirpitz was obscured by a smoke screen. The aircraft dropped its load of mines through the smoke where they believed the target to be lying.

The aircraft and crew returned safely to RAF Kinloss landing at 0529 hrs on 28th April 1942.
